Yvonne Allred

May 5, 1925 — August 26, 2019

Grandma was born May 5th 1925 to Spencer Mackley and Alga Harmer in the town of Mapleton, Utah.

Grandma had an older brother and sister, and a younger sister and brother.

Grandma had a fantastic memory. She even says she can remember a carriage ride when she was 18 months old. Her mother told her there was no way she could until she described the surroundings as they traveled.

Grandma was baptized May 14th 1933.

Grandma loved sports in grade school. She figured out that to make a home run, she could hit the ball and then knock it out of the baseman’s hands. She could jump as high or higher than any boy. She would jump the wrought rod iron fences.

Grandma’s first job was working nights at a restaurant, she then worked at Geneva Steel delivering mail to all the outside offices. After that she applied to nursing school, but didn’t stay long because she didn’t like the restrictions. The curfews were too tough to hold while carrying on a dating life!

In her early teens, grandma went from loving sports to loving sewing. She was a master seamstress and tailor, sewing everything from suits to wedding dresses and almost everything she wore. She made all of her daughters’ clothes until they were in junior high. Grandma was also proficient in knitting, crocheting, counted cross-stitch, needlepoint, and hand quilting. She even made a huge dollhouse with wallpapered walls for her granddaughters Dianne and Lisa for their Barbie dolls. Grandma loved to make dessert and was a great cake decorator. Her fudge is a family favorite.

In 1945, grandma married Robert Taylor Miksch. Bob had just been accepted to pilot training school. Thirty days after their wedding, Bob was killed in a plane crash. He stayed with his failing plane until it was out of danger to those below, and crashed it into a field.

In 1947, grandma married Lester C Allred. They were married 45 years before he died of cancer. They had three children. Michelle, Nicole, and Gregory.

Grandma and Grandpa loved to travel and visited all the countries in Europe plus Japan.

Grandma has always been very generous with her money. She has helped her children and grandchildren many times and never begrudged doing it.

Grandma was 94 when she passed away. One of grandma’s sayings was if she lived beyond her 60s she would make it to 90. Once she reached 90, it was her goal to beat her grandpa’s age when he died at 94. She did by three months! She was preceded in death by both her husbands, a son, a grandson, her parents, and all her siblings. Grandma leaves behind her daughters Michelle and Nicole, 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
