Sheldon Izatt

June 26, 1945 — September 17, 2021

Sheldon J Izatt passed away peacefully on Friday September 17th, 2021, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease and associated complications.

He was born June 26, 1945, in Ogden Utah the second son of Lenord C. and Carma Jenkins Izatt.  He was raised in Crescent Utah and spent many summers in his beloved Star Valley Wyoming working on the farm and the sawmill with his uncles.

He graduated from Jordan High School in 1963 and then served a Building Mission in the Seattle Washington Area.

Sheldon was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served many positions including a Service Mission at the Humanitarian Center.  His favorite calling was that of Cub Master.

He was employed by the Church for more than 27 years working to help beautify the grounds at Church Headquarters as a gardener, helping with Christmas lights and maintaining the reflection pools, fountains, and other water features.  He also worked some of those years at Beehive Clothing where he met his sweetheart, Cory.

Sheldon loved music and played the piano by ear.  He always found great joy, peace, and comfort in playing his accordion and harmonica.

He married Corinne (Cory) Despain on December 8, 1982, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Preceded in death by his first wife, sons Sheldon Jr. and Douglas.  His parents Lenord and Carma Izatt and brother Eugene Izatt. In-laws Robert and Nina Despain.  Brother and sister in-law Pam, Hans and Drew (nephew) Larson, sister in-law Shanna Richmond and nephew Eric Wayman.

Survived by wife Cory, brother Carvel (Brenda) Izatt, sister Karlenna (Richard) Deem, brother in-law Robert Despain, sister’s in-law Cindy (John) Krebs, Kaylene (Bill) Wayman, aunts, uncles and cousins, and many nieces and nephews and friends who loved him and will miss him greatly.

My family and I want to express our deepest heartfelt gratitude to all of the Doctors, nurses, aides and other caregivers at both Jordan Valley and Riverton Hospitals, and to the Rocky Mountain Hospice care team and other caregivers at Hunter Hollow Care Center who tried to make Sheldon’s last days more comfortable.  Also, to the many friends and family who have donated so generously to help in his care.  WE LOVE YOU ALL!
