Darrel R Twede

March 14, 1938 ~ December 24, 2020 (age 82)

Obituary

Darrel passed away on December 24, 2020 of congestive heart failure, at home with his family surrounding him.

He was born 14 March 1938 in Santaquin, Utah to Hugh Revere and Wilma Holladay Twede.

He had resided in Salt Lake, West Point, and Bountiful Utah. He was educated in Davis County graduating from Davis High School.  Two years at Weber College then served a mission in Helsinki, Finland.  When he returned he went to the U of U, graduating in Electrical Engineering with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree.

In 1964 he married the love of his life, Janice Toombs of Ogden in the Salt Lake Temple.  They had 6 children.

Darrel worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron, Kennecott Copper, Evans and Sutherland, and Eimco.  He traveled the world with his job – Chile, Japan, Mongolia, South Africa, Taiwan, and places across the US – and for pleasure.  He loved to travel.

He is survived by his wife Janice, their six children, Dawn (Scott Clark), Darren (Bea Twede), Jennifer (Eugene Greenwood), Allison Twede, Lezlie (Mike Helm), and Camille (Ben Cassity), 21 grandchildren,  7 great grandchildren, his brother Doug Twede, and sister Sondra Poll.

Darrel was a true outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish, camp, hike (he could out-hike anyone), and golf.  He loved the sun – laying out (til his calves were bright red) and working in the yard in 100 degree heat. He was always busy working with his hands, whether it was building something, a house project, fixing something that was broken, or helping others do all of those things. You only caught him sitting around on Sundays or when it was time to cheer on his Cougars in football (watched the whole 2020 BYU bowl game), basketball, and volleyball (he loved his red truck with a oval Y magnet). He was a Patriot and loved his country dearly, serving 10 years in the army reserve. He loved to read anything he could get his hands on, especially history and politics, and listen to Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.  Darrel loved to travel with his wife and family and made numerous trips across the US, visited Hawaii (many times), Norway, Denmark, Prague, Italy, Finland (revisiting his mission areas), Dubai, as well as landmark locations across the US. He was a true disciple of Christ, serving others was his way of life. He served in many callings in his life – bishop and counselor in the bishopric, high councilor, young mens, Gospel doctrine teacher, and others. He was the Sunday dish-doer, a man of few words, a lover of a good free hot dog at RC Willey, a loyal friend, a Christmas Eve shopper (always hitting the nail on the head in gifts for Janice), he was always up for an adventure and a coke.  Fingers crossed there is coke in heaven! Love you DAD!!

We would like to thank Inspiration’s Hospice and Country Care in Farmington Utah.  And a big thank you to his hospice nurses Dee Crowton and Allison Twede.
