OFFICIAL OBITUARY FOR

Charles "Chuck" Denton

1935 - 2021

OBITUARY Print

Chuck Denton was born June 26, 1935 to Charles William and Florence Janson Denton in Saginaw, Michigan. He received a BS Degree in Geology from Michigan State University and a BS Degree from Indian Institute of Technology in Chemical Engineering.

Chuck took work excursions to Maine where he worked for Marine Colloids harvesting seaweed in the middle of winter in the Atlantic Ocean. Another position held was with Coors Porcelain in Colorado. He spent most of his professional career at Thiokol (ATK). He helped develop propellants for all of the missiles that Thiokol was involved in, including the Space Shuttle. He retired as a Senior Scientist in 2001.

Chuck loved the West. He was an avid kayaker, rafter, canoeist, skier, and backpacker and found all these things in the West. He married Margery Miller in 1979. They were later divorced. In 1997, Chuck married Dorothea McDonald Eiting and joined a large, adventuresome, crazy, fun, and loving family. He loved every minute of it. And that family loved Chuck. All six sons loved him as a dad, and the 14 grandchildren loved him as a granddad.

Chuck was a Utah Symphony Season ticket holder for fifty-five years. It was something he and Dorothea looked forward to every season. Chuck was a very good bridge player and loved playing bridge at the Senior Center in Bountiful. Actually, he and Dorothea loved the laughter of the group as much as the bridge playing.

Chuck and Dorothea did a lot of traveling as they got older. They had so many adventures that they lost count. It was a great and wonderful life. Don’t be sad, but celebrate his life with love and joy.

Chuck leaves behind his wife, Dorothea who loved him “all there was”, six terrific sons, five wonderful daughters-in-law, 14 of the neatest grandchildren ever, a brother Bill and his wife Gayle Denton, and a sister-in-law Jo Ann. Chuck deeply cared for all his family.
