Carlos Echeverria

August 11, 1941 — December 9, 2020

Carlos Echeverria Alvarez was born in Guatemala, Central America on Aug 11, 1941, to Maria Luisa Echeverria- Alvarez and Eduardo Echeverria. He was called home to his Father in Heaven on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, after a courageous battle with Covid at the age of 79.

He was born into very humble beginnings. He was the eldest son of eight children and  worked hard to provide for his younger brothers and sisters at a very early age. He had a very close relationship with his siblings. They were each other's constant companions and continued to have weekly luncheons until recently. He was a devoted father, selfless, and hard-working his entire life.

The sweetness of the gospel was introduced to our father and his family in 1954. As a result, he and his entire family were baptized, becoming members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He strived to live the gospel his entire life. He was self-motivated, putting himself through school, earning his degree in accounting, and worked for a prestigious bank in Guatemala. He married Brenda Morales in 1972 and together they had four children, Luisa, Carlitos, Peggy, and Patty. Carlitos returned home to his Father in Heaven shortly after his birth. Our father deeply grieved his son his entire life. We are confident their reunion was sweet. He came to Utah with the desire to be sealed to his family in the Salt Lake Temple. He found much happiness in the gospel and raised his daughters in the gospel. Carlos worked for Bekins as a mover shortly after arriving in Utah and worked for Harmon's grocery store for over 35 years. He was beloved by his customers and greeted warmly by them whenever he would run into them after his retirement.

Our father was very tender-hearted and was quick to help anyone in need. He made everyone whom he met feel loved and welcome. He was a born caretaker and provider, a trait he magnified until his last days. His jovial and fun personality endeared him to all and he was a favorite among all of the nieces and nephews as well as the great-nieces and nephews. He was a devoted father and grandfather. His daughters were always his number one priority. He raised three strong and successful daughters and was proud of them and their achievements. He was a doting Grandfather and his grandchildren were his reason for living. He raised his eldest granddaughter, Mariah, and continued to help raise the other grandchildren as well. He never missed Grandparents day at the school, performances, or special events even when arthritis made mobility difficult. He and the grandchildren had an incredibly special bond and were often partners in crime. He had a mischievous personality and enjoyed his time with his family. He left us a legacy of love, charity, service, and devotion to family. We love you Papi and will miss you every day.

His memory and legacy will live on in his daughters, Luisa Echeverria, Peggy Bodamer (James), and Patty Cockayne (David); his seven adoring grandchildren, Mariah, Dakota, Joshua, Sasha, Jacob, and Grace; his siblings, Carmen, Luis, Laura, and Marina; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, "Lula" and father, "Huibo", his son Carlitos Estuardo, grandson Ian, sister Rosa, brother Jorge, and sister Bertita. He held his parents in high regard and honored them in life and death.

Due to Covid 19, a small service will be held for family members only. A Celebration of Life will be held next summer as permitted.
