Susan (Sue) Young Slagle Wilcox, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 78 years old.
Sue was born on May 22, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Luman (Bud) and Colleen Young Slagle. She grew up in a close-knit family with her siblings, Shauna Coe, Sherrie Boseman, Stephanie Cannon, Shirley Carrol, and Mike Slagle, all of whom survive her.
On March 21, 1969, she married the love of her life, Guy Wilcox. Together, they built a family that was the joy of her life. Sue is survived by her husband, Guy, and their six children: Jerhi (Terry) Wilcox, Tami (Phil) McNeil, Jason (Laural) Wilcox, Tiffany (Trent) Belcher, Andrew (Amy) Wilcox, and Nicholas Wilcox. She leaves behind a legacy of 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Sue dedicated her life to her family, never missing a milestone, school performance, or youth sporting event. She was a warm and nurturing presence, always gathering her family together, especially for holidays. For 31 years, she carried on the cherished tradition of the “Grandma Wilcox Christmas Gingerbread House Decorating Challenge,” a joyful yet competitive celebration that became a symbol of her love for family connection.
Gifted musically, Sue shared her talents through singing in choirs and playing both piano and organ. She performed with the Allegro choir for many years, often roping Jerhi and Tami into playing a part. She loved music, games of all kinds, and the simple joy of spending time with others. Friends and family alike knew her as gentle and kind—though she could be quick to lovingly and aggressively fact-check her husband’s family relation claims and tall tales.
Sue’s faith was central to her life. She served faithfully in many capacities within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as ward organist, Relief Society president, and temple ordinance worker. Her life was a testament of faith, love, and devotion to her Savior and her family.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel located at 12830 South 2700 West Riverton, Utah 84065, followed by the interment at Elysian Gardens located at 1075 East 4580 South Millcreek, Utah 84117. Viewing one hour prior to funeral.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time. Sue will be remembered always for her gentle heart, her unwavering devotion, and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
