Shirley Wassmer, wife of William (Bill) P. Wassmer (deceased) of Midvale, Utah, and recently from South Jordan passed away on May 20, 2025, at the age of 93 of natural causes.
Born on April 21, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to parents Lyman A. Jensen and Louie R. Owen. Shirley grew up loving the outdoors and was a member of the Wasatch Mountain Club in her youth. She enjoyed rock climbing, skiing, fishing, and camping. During family fishing trips it wasn’t unusual for her to catch both the largest and the most fish.
Shirley attended South High School in the late 1940’s and later attended LDS Business College. She was a secretary for Mountain Fuel, Lennox Industries where she met her husband William (Bill) Wassmer and later worked for Jay Tuft and Company. She also served as a PTA president in the Jordan School District and had an impact on the schools she was tasked with working with.
She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission to Zimbabwe Africa with her husband Bill. Later she served as a temple worker in the Oquirrh Mountain temple.
She is survived by her children, James (married to Johanne), Paula (married to Brad), and Bill (married to Kathleen), along with seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She also leaves many friends in Copperton, Utah where she lived for several years and at the Legacy House care center where she resided before her death.
Her funeral service will be held on June 7, 2025, at 10:30 AM in the Copperton Ward meeting house located at 8633 West Hillcrest Street, Copperton, Utah. Viewing will be held 9:30 - 10:30 at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity would be appreciated.
