Richard Hogan

August 27, 1936 — March 23, 2022

Richard Hyrum Hogan (Butch) was born to Glen Charles and Clara Brown Hogan on August 27, 1936 Murray Utah. Richard was raised in West Jordan and was the youngest of 5 children. Dad was raised on a family owned dairy farm (Hogan Dairy), where he learned the value of hard work. Like his older brothers and his father the Hogan boys were incredible marksmen. At the age of 15 dad held the Junior National big Bore record. Three-times individual National Guard Champion in 1953, 54 and 55, also team champions for the same years. Utah State big bore champion in 1953. His shooting awards and championships are too lengthy to enter. He and our mother with little DeAnne and Michael in tow and mom pregnant with Susan were invited to shoot in the Camp Perry (Ohio) National matches with his Utah team. Dad was an incredible 1000 yard prone shooter, even beating his father twice, which he was immensely proud of and possibly bragged about this accomplishment for many years.

Dad loved airplanes, the dairy was across the street from the old Midvale airport, where dad spent many days and nights sitting in abandoned military planes and pretended to be a true AirForce pilot, shooting down many enemies. A milk customer had a huge unpaid milk bill and grandpa made arrangements for the man to work off the bill by giving dad flying lessons in an old Cessna 120. That began his real love for airplanes. Dad married our mother Arlene Zoellner in the Salt Lake Temple on November 30, 1955. Dad ran a very successful Farmers Insurance Agency of 47 years. He retired in the summer of 2019 but never stopped coming into the office every day. Dad passed away on the afternoon of March 23, 2022 doing what he loved most...being at the office. He loved his family and sacrificed much in his calling as a dad. He was a very faithful Priesthood holder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Dad is survived by our incredible mother Arlene, sister in-law RuthAnn Simmons Hogan, "The Golden Five" DeAnne (Jim) Gierlach, Michael R (Marci and the late Colleen) Hogan, Susan (Garn Lee) Stewart, Mark D (Jennifer) Hogan, David D (Stephanie) Hogan, and "the Platinum two" Jason R (Kristina) Hogan, Matthew P (Jamie) Hogan, 26 GrandChildren and 30 Great GrandChildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Clara, daughter in-law Colleen Ivie Hogan, His siblings and spouses Keith and Helen Hogan, Max and Jane Hogan, Dimar Hogan, Carolyn and Deon Crawford.
