It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ray F. Smith, who was born on March 2, 1952, and passed away on May 18, 2026, at the age of 74.

Ray was a proud Marine and Vietnam veteran who dedicated much of his life to serving others. As a firefighter and later a fire chief, he devoted himself to protecting his community with courage, leadership, and compassion. His commitment to helping others was not just a career—it was who he was.

Beyond his service, Ray was a talented drummer who found joy in music and in bringing people together. He was known for his warm heart, quick wit, and gift for conversation. Ray never met a stranger. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved. Whether sharing stories, jokes, or words of encouragement, he left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

Above all, Ray was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Smith, his partner of 47 years, who has also passed away. He cherished his family and took great pride in the lives of his children and grandchildren. His love, guidance, laughter, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by those who knew him best.

Ray is survived by his two daughters, two sons, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and generosity.

Originally from Yuma, Arizona, and most recently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ray leaves behind a legacy of service, strength, love, and friendship. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will live on forever.

We take comfort in knowing that Ray’s spirit endures in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for the remarkable man he was—a devoted family man, a loyal partner, a proud veteran, and a truly loving soul.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed.
