Racheall “Shell” Kangas Fernandez Martin May 27, 1969 – August 10, 2025
Racheall Kangas Fernandez Martin, lovingly known as “Shell,” passed away on August 10, 2025, at the age of 56 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Racheall was born to Katherine “Kathy” Fernandez and Jim Kangas and was the oldest of three children. She was a loving sister to James and the late Kristina. When Kristina passed away in 2014, Racheall opened her heart and home, taking in her niece and nephew, Anthony and Olivia, as her own.
A proud graduate of the University of Utah, Racheall earned her bachelor’s degree in political science. In August of 1998, while working as a civilian contractor for the Navy, she met the love of her life, Francis Douglass “Doug” Martin. The two were married on June 12, 1999, and built a life together grounded in love, laughter, and shared devotion to family. On September 18, 2002, they welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Isabella Sirila Jean Martin, into the world.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Doug; her beloved daughter, Isabella; her brother, James; and her loving nieces and nephews, Anthony, Olivia, Megyn, and Austin. She also adored her grandchildren, Grayson, Hayden, and Rylan, who brought her endless joy. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Kristina.
At the time of her passing, Racheall worked as a permitting manager for Fibertel, where her intelligence, dedication, and work ethic were admired by all who knew her. Her sharp mind and ability to solve problems were matched only by her kindness and generosity.
Outside of work, she found joy in crafting, reading, and hosting family gatherings. She had a passion for baking, always making sure birthdays and holidays were celebrated with love — complete with her handmade cards that became treasured keepsakes for family and friends.
Racheall’s heart was as big as her spirit was selfless. Her greatest joy was keeping her family close, happy, and cared for. She poured her love into every detail of her life, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and stories about the people she loved most.
Her absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but her love, wisdom, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
