Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Peggy Jane Petersen Nish, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully with quiet grace and characteristic strength on April 21, 2026, surrounded by those who loved her most. She was 62 years old.

Peggy was born on May 11, 1963, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Norman and Marguerite Petersen. She was raised with a love of beauty, learning, and service. She went on to attend the University of Utah, earning a degree in Finance in 1986.

On September 12, 1984, Peggy was united in marriage and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to the love of her life, Donald (Don) Newell Nish, II. Together they built a home filled with faith, hard work, and flowers. Don's devoted and tender care of Peggy these past few years was a reflection of the life they built together over four decades.

Peggy built a dedicated career in finance and operations, serving twelve years at Zions Bank and ten years at the Energy and Geoscience Institute. Her greatest investments were always in the people around her. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Peggy gave generously of her time and talents through years of dedicated service in Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society, as well as her work as a Scout leader, nurturing the next generation with patient, steady love.

At home, Peggy's hands were never idle. She found deep joy in sewing and in tending her garden, where her love of flowers was always in full and glorious bloom. Her favorite flower, the vibrant gomphrena globe amaranth, hardy and endlessly blooming, was a reflection of Peggy herself: resilient, and quietly extraordinary. She had a desire to make others smile, bearing life's hardships without complaint and without fanfare. Her granddaughters brought her immeasurable joy, and those who knew her best will say she raised truly remarkable children, a legacy that speaks for itself.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Don; and her three children: Spencer (Kaeley), James (Jessica), and Anne (Camden); as well as three grandchildren, Piper, Marley, and Grace. She is also survived by her mother, Marguerite Petersen, and her three siblings Carolee (George), Bruce (Sue) and Lisa (Dan).

Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Norman Petersen, and her grandson, Theodore Nish.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Christina DeCesaris, Dr. Christo Valklavas, Dr. Rachna Malani, and their remarkable teams, whose dedicated care and treatments gave Peggy, and her family, precious additional months together.

Heartfelt gratitude is also extended to the Huntsman Hospice team for their compassionate and loving care. Their remarkable kindness and gentle support brought great comfort during a tender time.

The family also wishes to thank Paul Wheelwright and Kyle Stowell at Big West Oil for their extraordinary accommodation and support of Don during this season.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Adelaide Ward Chapel, located at 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful, Utah 84010. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing that same morning, prior to services, from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow services and be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery, located at 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah 84010.
