Orland Phil Rollins, age 94, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Mary by his side on January 22, 2026, in West Valley City, Utah. Born June 12, 1931, in Lyman, Wyoming, Phil lived a life marked by dedication to family, faith, and service.
He graduated from Lyman High School and attended Brigham Young University, where he met and married his sweetheart, Mary Beth Roper. They were married on May 21, 1953, in the Manti Temple. Phil earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Agriculture from BYU. Following his education, he served in the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. He later worked as a schoolteacher before transitioning into a career in sales. Together, Phil and Mary raised five children.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Phil served faithfully in many callings throughout his life. From 1995 to 1997, he and Mary served together in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission. Their shared commitment to service continued with many years in the baptistery of the Jordan River Temple.
In his younger years, Phil enjoyed wrestling, playing softball, and off-roading. During retirement, Phil and Mary loved splitting their time between their homes in West Valley City and St. George, Utah, where they made many dear friends. Phil enjoyed square dancing, pitching horseshoes, golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening—especially his dahlias—camping, playing cards, and watching BYU sports. Family gatherings were especially meaningful to him, and he loved talking with people, making friends wherever he went.
Phil always had a project he was working on. His mind remained sharp, even as his physical strength slowed, and he gladly recruited others to help bring his ideas to life. The family is grateful for the many family members, friends, neighbors, and ward members who offered their help and support. They also express sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by the Quality Hospice staff.
Phil is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Beth Roper Rollins; his children Garth (Alene) Rollins, Robyn (Clive) Rudd, Kip (Yanine) Rollins, David (Leslie) Rollins, and Carrie (Shawn) Spencer; his brother Gary Rollins; his sister Linda Hart; and his brother-in-law Stan Mackay. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild expected soon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Porter and Elease Rollins; his sister Loy Mackay; his brother Gaylin and spouse Joyce Rollins; sisters-in-law Joyce S. Rollins and Janice Rollins; brother-in-law Ned Hart; and great-granddaughter Elora “Ellie” Ann Rudd.
A funeral service will be held on February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4505 Brians Way, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will precede the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment following at 3:00 pm at the Lyman City Cemetery, Lyman, Wyoming.
