Nestor Coronel

Nestor Saturnino Coronel 1941-2018

Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Nestor Saturnino Coronel, age 76, passed away on July 30, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on August 24,1941 in Bahia Blanca, Argentina to Saturnino Dolores Coronel and Ceferina Esperon.

He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on November 24,1962 and was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Shortly after joining the Church, he met his beautiful wife Ana María Abad and they were married in Bahia Blanca on January 2,1968. Since there was not a temple in Argentina at the time, they traveled with two young children to the Los Angeles Temple in order to be sealed as an eternal family on June 21,1975.

Nestor devoted his life to his family and the Lord. His strong work ethic and leadership abilities blessed the lives of many. He served in several capacities within the church. He was firm but loving and never afraid to do the right thing, even if it was unpopular. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, wise counsel, and fun sense of humor.

Nestor was an intelligent man with many talents. Upon immigrating to the United States he started several businesses. He took advantage of his fluent Spanish and English skills to provide translation and interpretation services for many businesses. He donated his translation services to the State of Utah, Salt Lake City School District, and many other community organizations. He worked as a medical language interpreter with Salt Lake County Health Services and with University of Utah Health Care for 20 years. He created a program to teach doctors and nurses basic medical Spanish so that patients will have a better experience. Nestor loved helping people. When he saw a need he could help with he did not hesitate to get involved.

Nestor was a talented athlete. It was his love for athletics that lead him to find the LDS church and eventually become a member. He enjoyed playing ping pong, foosball and reading Calvin and Hobbes comics with his grandchildren. He was an avid soccer fan and loved to watch Real Salt Lake and the Argentine national team with his son and grandsons.

His greatest joy was his family. He loved spending time with them and was proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. He would often brag about them to his Co-workers.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ana María, and their children Diego Coronel (Cindy), Claudia Daniels (Keith), Pamela Mortensen (Ryan), Clarisa Wanlass (Brendan), and fourteen grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Rosa, Elsa and Nilda, and grandson Benjamin.

As a family we would like to thank the many dedicated and loving individuals who helped care for Nestor and support us during the final months of his life: The wonderful and caring staff at Pheasant Run Alzheimer's Special Care Center, Brighton Home Health and Hospice, the Pheasant Run LDS Branch, Arbor LDS Branch, Gold Cross Ambulance, friends and neighbors for being willing to serve wherever needed, and Independent Funeral Service and Elysian Burial Gardens for helping us navigate a difficult time with ease. It was by divine guidance that each of you have entered our lives.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM with a viewing prior, from 9:30-10:30 AM. An evening viewing will be held Monday August 6 from 6:00-8:00 PM.
