Michael “Mike” Lynn Mitchell was reunited with the love of his life on August 3, 2026 after he left this earth unexpectedly from cardiac arrest. Mike was born on August 18, 1950 to Marilyn Burt and Lynn Mitchell in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mike graduated from Granite High School in 1968. He was the big brother and had two little brothers, Terry and Larry, that he tormented and teased to no end.

When Mike was a young boy, he spent most of his time with his Grandma Cleta. He met some lifelong friends in Grandma Cleta’s neighborhood in the Holliday area, of which he was still friends with to this day.

With his high school buddy, Mark, Mike courageously joined the U.S. Army Reserve. He was very proud to be a military service member. Though he was never called to active duty, he was fully trained and ready to attend to his call. He was a true American patriot.

In these times of remembrance, the family recalls Mike’s love for tinkering in his garage and caring for his yard.

Mike loved and owned many cars. Throughout his life, he had a 1969 Z28 Camero SS (that he sold because it was just a little too fast), a 1967 Chevelle, a 1970 Monte Carlo, a 1970 Cheyenne pick-up truck, and a cherished 1990 cherry red convertible Corvette that his dad passed down to him – just to name a few.

Mike met the love of his life, Shelley Clark, while dragging State Street in Salt Lake City in 1974. They married on December 8, 1974. Together they proudly welcomed their daughter, Heather and son, Aaron. Raising their children was their greatest gift in life. Shelley and Mike lived in Fairfield, California for many years before moving back to Utah where they raised their kids and became the neighborhood’s favorite parents.

Throughout Mike’s career, he was a master of his craft – carpentry! He owned Mitchell’s Carpentry that he operated for nearly 50 years. Together with Shelley and her parents, he owned and operated Dirk’s Dry Cleaners for several years in Sugarhouse, Utah.

Mike was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He and Shelley taught Primary and Sunday School together and held numerous other positions in the church.

In these times of remembrance, the family recalls Mike’s love for tinkering in his garage and caring for his yard, the boating days and how great he was at water skiing, his excitement for family gatherings, his witty sense of humor, how amazing of a dad he was, his undeniable love for his family, his great stories of his wild days, his commitment to his wife and his devotion to Colonial Lumber, Café Rio and Dees Family Restaurant.

Surviving Mike is his daughter, Heather (Devin), son, Aaron, his brother, Larry (Angie) Mitchell, siblings in law, Shanna (Mick) Velasquez, Sydra Clark, Jodie (Corrine) Clarkand Mary Anne (late Jesse) Clark, many nieces and nephews and many extended family members. Mike is preceded in death by his wife, Shelley, parents, Marilyn and Lynn, brother Terry, sister, Kathy, grandma, Cleta and many extended family members - what a wonderful reunion they are all having!

A viewing will be held at Porter Lane 3rd Ward, 426 W 400 S, Centerville, Utah 84014 on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral services will be on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Porter Lane 3rd Ward, 426 W 400 S, Centerville, Utah 84014 preceded by a viewing and family prayer from 10:30 AM to 11:45 PM.

Graveside services will be on his birthday, August 18, 2026 at the Bountiful City Cemetery at 6:30 PM.
