Michael was the youngest of three sons born to Jim (deceased) and Jonna Young in SaltLake City, UT. He is survived by his Mother, brothers David (Tammy) and Steven (Sherrie)four nieces: Kirsten (Tyler), Megan, Erika (Ethan) and Natalie. He also has four great nephews Cole, Dustin, Kade, Asa and great niece Brooke, cousins Susan Allred, Scott Shelby, Alyssa, Destiny and cousins in Denmark.
He graduated from Brighton Seminary and Brighton High School where he lettered in WoodWorking, Electronics, and Space Lab. He was one class short of his Associates Degree at Salt Lake Community College.
Michael was shy, and quiet, preferring smaller gatherings. We were surprised when hevolunteered at the March of Dimes Haunted House as a cast member for many years. Hehad great stories to share about scaring adults and helping truly frightened people to calmdown. He worked for Tilt (Arcade) since high school and for Les Olson repairing copiers andprinters. While at Tilt he traveled to Australia, Boston, Texas, New Mexico, California and LasVegas opening, remodeling or closing stores. He loved the challenge and had the ability torewire and reinvent new games using parts from broken or obsolete machines. If Michealdidn’t know how to fix something he would research it and figure it out. We joked he couldrepair anything with a screwdriver.
Michael enjoyed Scout Camp with Dave Kadleck, fishing Lake Powell and racing slot carswith Steven and his Dad. They would spend hours racing cars with the friends from the club. His Dad coached him in baseball, basketball, and BMX racing along with his brothers andcousins. He enjoyed hunting sales at the Junkyards for parts for David and him to fix theircars and we have a full garage to show his success.
Michael passed away following an eight-week battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He remainedoptimistic he was going to beat it and was making plans for future adventures. Plans includedan epic trip to Disneyland with his Mother and niece, Natalie, in what can only be describedas “Mike’s way of doing Disney”.
Michael will be deeply missed by his family and those who had the opportunity to know andlove him. He will be remembered for his big heart and was always willing to help his niecesand family anyway he could.
