Melissa Joy (Parkin) Hughes, 63, passed away September 4, 2025 from complications due to stroke. Born November 28, 1962 in Salt Lake City to Darwin and Darlene (Horton) Parkin.
Melissa graduated from Skyline High School in 1981. She married Mark Hughes on November 23, 1991. Melissa had two children from a previous marriage, Trindilyn (Trin) Pearce and Cristelle (Matt) White. She acquired three more when she married Mark: Stephen (Bulan) Scheel, Ashlee Hughes and Chelsea (Shawn) Hughes-Leslie. Together they had 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Survived by husband, Mark, of Sandy, UT, 9 siblings plus spouses and partners. Preceded in death by parents and daughter, Cristelle Pearce White.
Melissa loved to sing and she had a special place in her heart for music. When she experienced her first stroke in 2014, she picked up a paintbrush and found a new love in Paint Nite.
She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to share in these loves. She had numerous friends who will miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 375 East 10600 South in Sandy, UT. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the funeral.
A celebration of her life is planned that evening at 7:00 p.m. at the North-East Pavillion (RICE pavilion) in Liberty Park (900 S. 700 E. –Enter the park on 1300 South at 600 East) with a bubble release in her honor at sunset. Watch for updates from family members on Facebook.
