Marvalyn Ostler Fronce

Marvalyn Ostler Fronce, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 73.

Marvalyn was born in Nephi, Utah, on April 29, 1953, to Ferry Jacob “Jake” Ostler and Alligee Elizabeth “Beth” Anderson Ostler. Her family later moved to Salt Lake City, where she graduated from Skyline High School in 1971. After graduation, she worked in the Salt Lake City area until she married Bill Fronce and settled in Sandy, Utah. While raising their three sons, Marvalyn began working in the mall office during the construction and opening of South Towne Mall.

In 1988, the family moved to Beaverton, Oregon, for work opportunities. Although the marriage eventually ended, Marvalyn and Bill remained committed to raising their boys. Marvalyn began working for Reser’s Fine Foods. She was also an active member of the Oak Hills Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she developed many wonderful friendships. She was fun, kind, and supportive of her friends and family in countless ways. During this time, she also became a grandmother for the first time, eventually welcoming nine grandchildren.

Marvalyn later moved back to her home state of Utah to be closer to family. She worked in several customer service positions while continuing to focus on and care for her family. She was also a helpful and caring neighbor who looked out for the children in her neighborhood.

Marvalyn eventually began developing symptoms that led to a diagnosis of dementia. For her comfort and safety, she moved to Carrington Court Assisted Living shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began. During her years at Carrington, she became well known for her smiles, waves, and hugs. Although dementia changed some aspects of her fun and outgoing personality, it brought out her warmth and affection in other ways. Those who cared for her came to know and love the gentle, affectionate spirit that remained.

Marvalyn is survived by her children: William “Bill” (Chiara) Fronce of South Jordan, Utah, and their children, William “Mason,” Madden, Macksen, and Marley; Michael (Courtney) Fronce of Moseley, Virginia, and their children, Hamilton and Cora; and Timothy “Tim” (Janessa) Fronce of Cedar Hills, Utah, and their children, Sadie, Sutton, and Scarlett.

She is also survived by her siblings, Virginia Hendrickson, Andy (Debbie) Ostler, Gordon (Jill) Ostler, and Ron (Kaye) Ostler. She will be remembered and deeply missed by her extended family and many dear friends whose lives she touched throughout the years.

Marvalyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Wally Hendrickson; and her nephew, Skip Hendrickson.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff of Carrington Court for loving and caring for our dear Marvalyn. We are also grateful to Active Hospice and Independent Funeral Services for their kindness and assistance during her final days.

A viewing and funeral service will be held on August 21, 2026, at the LDS chapel located at 11577 Grandville Avenue, South Jordan, Utah 84009. The viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service. Marvalyn will be interred in the Moroni City Cemetery near her parents.
