Lorna Joy Nell Mackay

Our loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, Lorna Joy Nell Mackay, passed away peacefully at her home on June 20, 2024, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was surrounded by so much love from so many family and friends.

Mom was born September 15, 1942 to Afton Mackay and Loran Nell in Salt Lake City, UT. After Loran’s passing, Lorna gained an amazing second father, Rex Mackay. Lorna married Ken Mackay on 11/20/1964, and lived their whole lives in Salt Lake City. Our Dad passed away October 22, 2012. 

Our Mom taught us several valuable life lessons. She was the model of selflessness, humility, and independence. Lorna had an incredible work ethic that she passed onto us. We were always taught to see things thru, whether on any field or court or getting our Eagle Scout. In her life, she filled several professional roles. Even post-retirement, Lorna continued to volunteer and contribute to the community. 

Lorna had a wonderful fun-loving personality and her family and friends have many fond memories of their time with her. She had a special love for her grandkids and developed a very special bond with each of them. She was a lifelong learner and encouraged all of her family to be as well. She treasured adventures and experiences with her family over material things. 

Lorna is survived by her sons Lance (Angie) and Guy (Amy). Five amazing grandkids Josh, Chad (Kaitlyn), Elizabeth, Hannah and Brinlee. Two Great-grandkids Lincoln and Hudson. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024, 11:00 am at 7171 South and 2700 West, West Jordan. Friends and family are invited to a viewing that morning 9:00-10:30 am at the same address. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens 10600 South and 1950 East. Funeral Directors; Independent Funeral Service.
