Tribute to Our Matriarch

We expected you to pass at age 93, like so many before you. But in your true mama drama fashion, you chose to exit early. The childhood trauma you experienced in war-torn Germany didn’t wane with age; it festered into a pain you called “unbearable” in your last love letter to us. We couldn’t save you and want you to be at peace in eternal serenity.

You are forever in the hearts of your loved ones: Daughters Monica, Marina, and Pride; granddaughters Michelle, Stephanie, and Taylor; grandson Trey; great granddaughters Kira, Nicole, and Alyssa; great grandson Alec; and great-great granddaughters Zoey and Maizie.

We are collectively and in solidarity moving forward to stem the generational trauma caused by the scourge of war, which children should not have to endure. We ask friends and extended family to understand your demons were too great to overcome.

You were the best Mom you could be, and we will cherish the lifetime of memories you forged with us. You always knew how to get a job done. We watched you clean the bejesus out of everything with lots of bleach no less, reconfigure more than one sofa by taking a chainsaw to it, present every meal as if it were a feast, sew pockets into practically anything, diligently run us to the ER with nothing more than a hangnail, and most of all, LOVE US unconditionally. We rarely saw you laugh, but you’ve got a pass on that one. We’re going to try to make up for that.

Rest in peace, Motherbird.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at https://afsp.org.
