Listen to Obituary

Our beloved mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend Jennifer Kay Record Weight passed away February 24, 2026. She was born January 8, 1954 in Salt Lake City, the oldest of 6, to Eldon Eugene and Gwen Kay Schmidt.

Jenny graduated from South High in 1972. She met the love of her life, Ralph Howard Weight, when they worked together, mom at Sorenson Research and Dad at LaVoy’s, which shared a building. They married August 24, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 3 children, Amy, Michael and Daniel. Ralph passed away in 2014.

We kids couldn’t have asked for better parents. Mom stayed at home to raise us until our youngest brother started school. Then she want to work at the school as a paraprofessional aide. She did that for many many years and loved it. She joined a bowling league through the school district and had a lot of fun meeting and bowling with all of them every week.

Mom loved the outdoors and traveling. We took many family trips to Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons. She loved looking for moose, taking pictures, shopping and spending time together as a family there. Including trips she took with her sister Sue and her life long friend Diane. After our dad passed, she went on many adventures, both big and small, with her sisters Sue and Carol and their mom. They traveled all around southern Utah seeing places she hadn’t ever seen. She and Sue loved to go thrift store shopping and she loved buying fun things.

The day she and our dad became grandparents was the happiest of their lives. Mom would come and stay at her daughter’s house for days at a time to be the caregiver to the oldest 2 when they were tiny while Amy and Randy worked. It created a special bond that carried on through the years. In her last few years since her stroke, Amazon became her favorite shopping place . She loved buying things for her grandsons!

After our dad passed away, his 2 brothers passed within a few years. Mom and dad’s sister Linda Jane and the sister in laws, Hazel and Linda Marie would get together every month for a lunch. They called it the lunch bunch. This meant a lot to mom. They would either meet at one of their homes or go out to eat. Mom loved those visits and that they could stay close to each other.

She loved a lot of people and a lot of people loved her. She always loved with her whole heart. She was always with a smile and quick to laugh. No matter how hard things were, she always tried to find the light. After her stroke in 2023, she was able to stay in the home she and dad bought when they got married and had lived in their whole married life and after dad passed. This was in great part to her sons stepping up to be her caregivers. It meant everything to her. The last few years were hard, but like everything we got through as a family.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Ralph and her parents. She is survived by her children, Amy (Randy), Michael and Daniel. Her grandsons Colter, Morgan and Hayden. Her siblings; Sue, Dave (Carol), Paul (Ginny), Gary (Gretha), Carol (Michael). Many nephews and nieces and their families. Also a number of friends who were more like family.

Mom loved to laugh and looked for the joy in everyday. She loved flowers and pretty colors. So we are asking, if you wish, to wear something bright and cheerful to her service as we celebrate her life and send her on her next big adventure.
