Janice Nelson Turner, 89, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband and children on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Janice was born on September 30, 1936 in Oakley, Idaho to Raymond Hunter and Zeo May Nelson. She grew up in Hailey, Idaho, where her father worked for the U.S. Forest Service.
He was stationed at Russian John’s Ranger Station. Many of her most cherished childhood memories were summers spent there with her family.
After graduating from Wood River High School in 1955, Janice was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico. While serving in Mexico she became ill and later completed her mission in the North Eastern States mission. She continued to serve in several callings throughout her life, mainly within the Young Woman’s and Relief Society organizations.
Upon returning home, Janice moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. While living there, she met her future husband, Newell Turner, on a blind date. After that first date, she told her roommate that she had “just met the man she was going to marry”. Janice and Newell were later married on April 10, 1964 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They later settled in Bountiful, Utah, where they built their life together and raised four beautiful children, two sons and two daughters.
Janice was a hairstylist, her basement salon was the neighborhood’s favorite place to have their hair done and more importantly chat with Janice. She later worked as an administrative assistant at the LDS Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, where she eventually retired. Janice was known for her warmth, faith, and deep devotion to her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a playful mischievous charm. She was a loyal fan of Mickey Mouse and Coke. She was the kind of mom that her children’s friends loved to be around, always welcoming, fun, and full of life. Everyone loved coming over on Thursday nights for her famous “Hoagie Night” dinners.
She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply and found great joy in spending time with them. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Raymond Nelson, her sister Virginia Miller, and her grandson Hunter Turner. She is survived by her brother Harold Nelson, husband, Newell Turner, her children Rick Turner (Kristine), Brent Turner (Jessica), Paula Leasure (Mark) and Kathy Barlow (Brad), as well as 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Service and viewing will be held on February 14, 2026 at the LDS Church Chapel located at 115 East Wicker Lane, Bountiful, UT 84010.
