James Dee Shupe

1956~2020

James Dee Shupe, passed away suddenly on September 2, 2020 in Murray, Utah due to complications from cancer. He is now in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is having a joyful reunion with his Mother, Grandparents, friends, and loved ones in Paradise.

The World lost a great man the day that James Shupe passed away. Anyone who knew him knew that James was a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, and Brother. He was also a great friend who would suit up and show-up when you needed help, day and night. James was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Came to Believe Recovery, and H & I (Hospitals & Institutions). James Shupe was very dedicated to service work. He carried the message of recovery weekly to inmates at the Salt Lake County Detention Center. He did this for over 17 years. He was a sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous and a mentor to so many people that he loved. His sobriety date was May 30, 1997. He left this earth with over 23 years clean and sober. He carried the message of recovery everywhere he went and helped countless alcoholics and addicts achieve and maintain sobriety.

James had a passion for fishing and attending recovery campouts in his spare time. Some of his favorite places were Starvation Reservoir, Deer Creek Reservoir, Strawberry Reservoir, and the G.O.D. Campout in the Uintas. He could always be found behind the camera at family events. He loved taking photos of his family. He also loved poker, and enjoyed playing most Saturday nights until 4 a.m. with some of his best friends. =) He was a Master Electrician, worked for Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation, and owned his own business Light’s On Electric, Inc. He was also a proud Eagle Scout.

James was born on July 1, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah. His Mother Joyce Estella Kerr Arrington precedes him in death. Survived by his loving wife Lisa Shupe, Father Jerry (Dianne) Parkin, and his Step-Father Ronald E. Arrington. He is also survived by four children and their spouses who loved and admired their Dad: Dotti (Chris) Dyson, Jessica Shupe, Casey (Amanda) Shupe, and Dezarae (Britt) Thornton. He married Lisa Shupe on August 13th, 2005 in Taylorsville, Utah. James also had 2 stepchildren that he loved: Justen (Amber) Padgett and Brea (Nathan) Millward.

His is survived by his 3 sisters and their spouses; Brenda (Ron) Meyer, Taunya (Ed) Munford, and Jerri-Ann (Brad, a.k.a. B.J.) Hrubes. His 4 Brothers and their spouses also survive him: Todd Parkin, Shane Parkin, Mark (Jolynn) Parkin, and Scott Shupe.

James had 11 beautiful grandchildren; Damien Patrick Dyson, Trinity Ann Dyson, Gage Matthew Dyson, Angelee KayeLynn Dyson, Cayden James Carlson, Quinn Casey Shupe, Yuna Thornton, Marshall Padgett, and Katie & Ethan Millward. He was very proud of his Grandchildren.

James had 11 nieces and 13 nephews: Chaz Shupe, Derek Meyer, Tristan Meyer, Stacy Buchanan, Michelle Sorenson, Brad Parkin, Bruce Parkin. Lindsey (Chris) German, Travis (Jade) Smith, Landon Munford, Brian Munford, Tara Munford, Katelynn Munford, Preston Hrubes, Kylie Hrubes, Blake Hrubes, Baylee Hrubes, Roby Hrubes, Christy Hrubes, Farah Hrubes, DJ Hrubes, Jason Wallace, Roxanna Shupe, and Shaynea Parkin.

A Celebration of Life for James will be held on Sunday, September 20th, 2020 at the Murray Utah Alano Club located at 5056 Commerce Dr, Murray, UT 84107.
1:30-3:00 p.m. (Family & Close Friends) 3:30-5:00p.m. (Friends and Members of AA)
This will be an open microphone/open house style Celebration of Life.

*Because of the Coronavirus and Alano Club Regulations, MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND WHILE INDOORS.
There will also be a Potluck, so please bring your favorite COVERED treats and/or desserts as well as your large serving utensils. =)
