Grant Steadman Hedin

June 26, 1955 — June 4, 2024

Riverton

Grant Steadman Hedin, (68), of Riverton, Utah passed away from an unexpected illness on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A humble, honorable and valiant man, Grant was kind to his core and lived a life of service to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and remembered with a smile by all who knew and loved him.

Grant was born to Delores “Joy” Steadman and Roy William Hedin on June 26, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and enjoyed growing up with brother Craig and sister Barbara. He graduated from Granger High School in 1973 and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Washington, D.C., serving others and teaching about Jesus.

He married the girl three doors down, Deborah Christiansen Hedin, on February 7, 1980, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and they enjoyed many happy years together raising their beloved boys, Ben and Mike. The family lived in Granger and then South Jordan, Utah where they built a new home, and the boys grew up and launched into adulthood. Grant lovingly cared for Deborah, who passed away in 1996 from a terminal illness, and he continued as super dad to his boys, devoted to their wellbeing and care. Grant was a loving husband and father and cherished his relationships with his sons, as well as with his wonderful daughters-in-law, Karli and Melissa.

One of his most treasured roles was that of “Papa” and “Grandpa Grant” to his six wonderful grandchildren. Grant was an intentionally present and involved grandpa who cultivated and enjoyed special relationships with each of his grandkids and gave tremendous service to his family. As the grands got older, Friday nights were special as each one got their own one-on-one time with grandpa including dinner and an activity of their choice.

Grant’s career was in the transportation industry working for Utah-Wyoming, Roadway, and Estes trucking companies involved in everything from weights and measures to rate adjusting and management positions. Some of his favorite hobbies were cars and keeping them in immaculate condition; a lush, beautiful lawn and maintaining his yard to perfection; basketball, both playing ball and watching the NBA; travel, especially to Disneyworld, Disneyland, St. George, Park City, San Diego, and Great Wolf Lodges with his grandkids; and serving in the Temple several times a week. He had a fun-loving personality and always had treats in his pocket to share, especially Smarties.

Grant is survived by sons Ben (Karli), Herriman, Utah and Mike (Melissa), West Jordan, Utah; grandchildren DawsonColby, Colin, Carson, Sawyer and Corrine; brother Craig (Kathie), West Valley City, Utah; and sister Barbara (Roger, deceased) Minor, West Valley City, Utah; parents-in-law Clair and Joyce Christiansen, South Jordan, Utah; siblings-in-law Susan C. (Jay, deceased) Williams, Santaquin, Utah; Doug (Amy) Christiansen, Nashville, Tennessee; Scott (Nikki) Christiansen, Centerville, Utah; and Shannon C. (Greg) Seare, Holladay, Utah. He was preceded in death and lovingly welcomed on the other side by his wife, Deborah; brothers-in-law Jay and Roger; and parents, Joy and Roy.
