Grant Richard Bagley

September 22, 1930 — May 19, 2025

Richmond

Our dear father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, G. Richard Bagley of Richmond, Utah peacefully passed away on May 19, 2025, at the Logan Regional Hospital after his 94-year-old body finally wore out. Richard was born on September 22, 1930, in Richmond, Utah, to Nellie Cartwright and Grant Lyle Bagley. He was the second child of three children. Dad attended Park Elementary School, Lewiston Junior High, and graduated from North Cache High School in 1948. He proposed marriage to his sweetheart, Bille Lu Doane, on February 14, 1951. They were married on September 14, 1951, in the Logan Temple. Between June 1952 and February 1954, Dad served active duty as an U.S. Army Officer, spending 16 months in Korea as part of the Korean War conflict.

Mom and Dad were blessed with six children: Cheryl (Buddy) Calderwood, Rexburg, Idaho; Teri (Frank) Coon, Taylorsville, Utah; Craig (Camille) South Jordan, Utah; Brad (Michelle) West Jordan, Utah; Kirk (Janis), South Jordan, Utah; and Diane (Craig) Lamont, Mapleton, Utah. His posterity currently includes 30 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren who all have a deep love for him.

Dad received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the Utah State Agricultural College in 1952 and later earned a Master of Science degree from Utah State University in Secondary School Administration. His entire professional career was spent working in the education field. He served as a teacher for 10 years, was the first principal of North Cache Junior High School and served as the Cache County School District Director of Auxiliary Services for 22 years.

Dad lived a life of service. He served on the Richmond City Council, served two terms as Mayor of Richmond City, was active in the Richmond City Lions Club and American Legion for over 60 years, and served in the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings that included: Bishop, High Councilman, Patriarch, Counselor in the Logan Temple Presidency, and sealer in the Logan Temple. Through all of his years of work and service he had the privilege of working with some of the finest people that ever walked on the planet.

Dad loved history. He taught history as a teacher and his record keeping and sharp mind were a resource in preparing multiple family history books. He also was a media resource for events and conditions of days gone by. He loved people and the journey of life.

During the last 15 years of his life, Macular Degeneration reduced his visual acuity, but not his vision for life. He also served as a loving caregiver for Mom during her last years, even when she had to be his eyes. Dad ultimately had to stop driving and became homebound. After Mom’s death in August 2019, children, grandchildren, and neighbors rallied to help care for him because he had a strong desire to remain “independent” in his home in Richmond. His Richmond roots were deep, having lived more than 90 of his 94 years there. Our family sincerely thanks the many people that served and cared for and visited him during his final years, including those that served him during the last week of his mortal sojourn.

Dad is survived by his six children, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and his younger sister, LuAnn Monson of Clearfield, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents; his older sister Loene and her husband, Louis Robinson; and his brother-in-law David Monson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31st, at 11:00 a.m. at the Richmond Stake Center located at 135 West Main Street, Richmond, Utah.
