Garth Ostrander Boulden, of South Jordan, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on August 15, after living courageously with the effects of age and Parkinson's disease. He was born on June 26, 1938, to William Bliss Boulden and Helen Doris Ostrander Boulden.

Garth proudly served his country for 21 years in the United States Navy, retiring in 1982 as a Chief Petty Officer. His years of service instilled in him a discipline and steadiness that carried through every part of his life, from his career to the way he cared for his family.

Garth met and married the love of his life, Loraine Brown Boulden, and this November they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage — six decades built on partnership, patience, and devotion. Together they raised three children, William Boulden, Timothy Boulden, and Kimberly Hall, and went on to build a family that grew to include 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Those who knew Garth knew him as a bit of a smart aleck — always ready with a joke and a twinkle in his eye. He loved working in his garden, tinkering with anything he could get his hands on, and in his later years discovered a real gift for bead weaving, creating intricate small tapestries and handmade jewelry. He was an avid reader who could just as easily be found with his nose in a book as out in the yard. But more than any hobby, Garth treasured time with his family, and nothing brought him greater joy than seeing and holding his great-grandchildren.

Garth is survived by his wife, Loraine Brown Boulden; his children, William Boulden, Timothy Boulden, and Kimberly Hall; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters, Rita Lyman and Linda Boulden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bliss Boulden and Helen Doris Ostrander Boulden, and his brothers, Don Boulden and Kirk Boulden.

Garth will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather — a man of humor, craftsmanship, and quiet strength, who loved deeply and lived life on his own good-natured terms.

Garth will be cremated. Instead of a traditional funeral, there will be a casual celebration of life in mid-September. Date and time to be announced at a later date.
