David Stocks Golightly

David Stocks Golightly, lover of God, family, and fishing passed away Thursday morning April 4 surrounded by his sweet wife and a few of his many family members.  He was just shy of his 83rd birthday. It does appear that Dave was one of God’s favorites as he was allowed one more day of “glorious” fishing on the lake with his brothers!  

Dave was born April 29, 1941, in Preston, Idaho, the first of ten children.  Preceded in death by his parents, Orrin and Sylva Golightly, and two sisters, Laura, and Coy, Dave is survived by his wife and best friend of sixty-one years, Patricia, eight children, twenty-six grandchildren, many great grandchildren, four sisters and three brothers.

Dave had developed a love of many things in his lifetime.  Among them are music, gardening, nature, games with his kids and grandkids, sharing his love of the Savior, a “good” debate, a good joke, golfing, and of course fishing.  Dave also was one of the most charitable people around.  A visit always included the offer of a meal, and some advice or encouragement.

Dave served a mission in the California/Arizona area for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1960-1962, of which he was very fond of. He brought back with him not only a deep and abiding testimony of the Savior, but perhaps one of his greatest treasures, Patty. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1963. Dave also held many callings and positions in the church over the years.  He also never shied away from testifying of the Savior, he loved the Lord and wanted to share it with everyone, especially in his later years.

Viewings will be held Friday, April 12, from 6 to 8 pm and Saturday the 13 from 9:30 to 10:45 am at the Bountiful 39 ward located at 1500 South 600 East Bountiful, Utah.  Funeral services will be held Saturday April 13 at 11am at the same location, with graveside services held immediately following at the Bountiful Cemetery.  Zoom link for funeral at the bottom for those who can’t attend.
