Listen to Obituary

Curtis Wayne Hanna was born in Brigham City, Utah, on August 5, 1962, to Wayne L. Hanna and Velma Karen Jensen. He passed away on January 22, 2026. From the day he arrived, Curtis was deeply loved.

Curtis was an only child until almost age five, when his life changed forever—he was blessed with three sisters all in the same year. Ten years later, his youngest sister joined the family. From that point on, Curtis became the steady, dependable glue that held his sisters close. He made sure each of them received weekly phone calls, always checking in, always offering a listening ear. In 1991, Curtis married Teresa Herzner; they later divorced.

Curtis possessed many wonderful traits. He had a remarkable gift for compassion, and nothing brought him greater joy than helping others however he could. A natural problem-solver, Curtis loved to figure out how things worked, which led him to study engineering in university. He was a talented handyman who could fix almost anything—from appliances to cars to pianos. He was also a chef, a prankster, and a loyal friend. His nieces and nephews adored him, and he loved teasing them, cooking for them, and spending time playing together—memories they will always cherish. He enjoyed playing cards with his neighbors and loved any chance to play games with his sisters.

Curtis was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and grew deeply in his faith later in life, thanks to the loving influence of his friends and leaders. His quiet conversion brought him great peace and purpose.

Curtis is survived by his sisters, Sharolyn (Eric) Swenson, Janece Hanna, Joanne Reding, and Kristine Johnson; and by his step‑siblings, Jo Ann (Steve) Eskelsen, Denise (David) Eastham, Linda Nelson, and Curtis Roberts. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Loretta; and his grandparents, Jack and Helen Hanna and Francis and Una Jensen.

The family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors, ministering brothers, and medical professionals who cared for Curtis with such tenderness throughout the final years of his life. Your visits, prayers, and countless acts of service brought comfort, joy, and dignity to his days. We are especially grateful to those who watched over him so faithfully, ensuring he felt supported and never alone. Your kindness has been a profound blessing to our family, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the love you shared with him.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to LDS Philanthropies or to the charity of your choice in Curtis’s honor.

The viewing will take place on Monday, January 26 at the LDS Chapel on 950 North Main Street in Centerville, Utah. The viewing will take place at 9 and the funeral will take place at 10.
