Listen to Obituary

If you are reading this, I finally received my call home. My mortal journey is over. Celebrate this day as I have longed for it the past few years.

It all started on September 14, 1932 here in Salt Lake City. My first years were spentgrowing up just off 700 East across from Liberty Park. The park was my playground. When I was eight years old, we loaded up and moved to Medford, Oregon. I always wanted to be a dancer as a young girl but I found my spot as a drummer in the Medford High School band. My first job was working as a sales clerk at the J.C. Penny’s store.

I met my eternal companion, Bob Ellis, shortly after graduating high school. We were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on Dec. 6, 1951. That was the nearest temple to where we lived in Oregon. We had our first two children in Medford, Sandra and Rob. We moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon in 1958 because of a job transfer for Bob. Our third child, Richard, was born in Klamath Falls. We raised our family there.

It was through my active participation in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that I learned to minister and serve others. My roles in the Relief Society, Primary and Sunday School programs provided ample opportunities to serve. It was always a highlight to travel with other sisters to Salt Lake City for training sessions around the Church’s General Conference.

I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom for the most part. When all the kids were in school I worked part-time as a teacher’s aide at Mills Elementary and Riverside Elementary. I loved working with the children.

My great passion in life was quilting. It was common to have quilting frames up somewhere in the house. If it wasn’t my house it was a friend’s house. Quilting parties were the rage and I made dear friends spending hours together quilting. I was usually the youngest of the group, but I loved to make quilts and gave most away for special occasions. How I miss having the dexterity to guide a needle through a quilt!

In March of 1980, we made a new home in Rock Springs, Wyoming - another job transfer for Bob. Wyoming wasn’t Oregon and it was a shock to the system but I made great friends, became an empty-nester and grew to love the area. That all ended when Bob retired. We sold our home and accepted a call to serve as temple workers in the Chicago Illinois Temple. I was in my 50’s when we served, younger than most of the other workers, but again, we made life long friends with many of them.

The love of serving in the temple followed us after our release. When we settled in Kearns, Utah in 1988, we attended the temple every Wednesday for many years. I loved the peace and spirit found within the walls of the temple. We later moved to West Jordan, Utah where I became active in the local camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. I was proud of my pioneer heritage.

I loved serving others and over the course of the next 40 years I always had a list of friends to serve - be they bedridden, widowed or disabled. When one would move on there was always another to take their place. Even after moving into the assisted living community I felt the need to care for each new person that arrived and to make sure they felt a part of the community. Some I would push in their wheelchairs to meals or take them back to their room. I always felt the need to serve.

And that brings me to today. I am grateful to the staff at Copper Creek Senior Community that have helped me the past six and one-half years, and to those from Ovation Hospice.

My world was my family. I leave behind my three children, Sandra Carlson, Rob Ellis, and Richard and Joyce Ellis. Joyce cared for me as if I was her own mother and I am eternally grateful for her love and service. And to my 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, always remember I loved you with all my heart.

June 30, 2026 brought an end to my mortal existence, but I rejoice in the great reunion in Heaven with my family that preceded me in death. And I look forward to the time when we will all be together again!
